Hot spots that occur within an engines combustion chamber can very soon lead to critical engine damage. An engines coolant jacket is something that is often ignored when increasing an engines performance. Engines cooling jackets can be running at maximum in a road car let alone a race car. Vee engines in particular can have difficulty in removing heat from certain piston banks. After boiling point water is unable to cope with a hot spot that soon goes past hot to red hot, water will jump off  the hot spot like water on a hot weld .
